Women in Kisii have been asked to use their skills, knowledge and networks to effectively lead in the COVID-19 response and recovery.
Today, unlike before women are touted to bring different experiences and skills to make meaningful contributions towards a better society.
Speaking during this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations at the Gusii Stadium, Kisii County CEC for Administration Ednah Kangwana said it’s important for women to fully participate in decision making in public life.
“This will go a long way towards the elimination of violence in achieving gender equity and empowerment of all women and girls.” Kangwana noted.
Kangwana continued, “Across the world women are facing increased domestic violence, unemployment and poverty.”
She however encouraged women not to shy away from participating and taking part in leadership, especially during this period of COVID-19 pandemic.
In his address Kisii County Secretary Patrick Lumumba noted that the County Government through the leadership of Governor James Ongwae has over the years supported women officers.
He said that the County Government has over time endeavored to encourage and promote women to pursue various leadership positions in public service.
“We are committed to support women in our service to grow and achieve their potential since we recognize their God given gifts and skills.”Mr Lumumba noted.
This year’s theme: “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.” has sought to call for women’s right to decision-making in all spheres of life. That will include equal pay, equal sharing of unpaid care and domestic work, end all forms of violence against women and girls, and health-care services that respond to their needs.
